Description

The listing, Antique Victorian Mourning Brooch/Pin Angelic Baby Boy has ended.

Here I present to you another Victorian mourning brooch with the most angelic face I've ever seen. I can only imagine the grief of the parents and the small comfort they must have felt of having a a photographic memento to keep and wear forever.

The brooch is 1" in diameter. The photo is on a pin-back button which was then inserted into a brooch/frame, which is how most of the photo mourning brooches were made. The original pin on the brooch has been removed, and instead the pin on the button was used. You can still see the original "C" clasp which indicates this is from the Victorian era. There is a crack in the coating on the photo, but if you're staring at those eyes you won't even notice it. There's a little tarnish on the brooch.

I never knew these were considered "mourning brouches". So, I guess putting a picture of one of your own is in very bad taste! Learn something every day, thank you!

Typically the brooches with photos of children were for mourning; child mortality was very high in the 1800s. Brooches with photos of adults could be for mourning or remembrance, something that someone would give to her/his sweetheart. Thanks for commenting!
