I don't remember which anymore, but they are real gold. You do not get to select the earring if you win a regular auction. You get the haunted house earrings.

The earrings offered here today are a pair of haunted house earrings with ghosts flying around, a set of pumpkins, a pair of skull heads with bat wings, and lastly a set of two vampire teeth.

GIN gets you ALL FOUR EARRINGS, PLUS the necklace. It's a metal (nickle free) with a faux gem stone, and even though it's pictured with a (fake) metal chain, I can trade it out for an orange leather cord.
