The animal shelter is best, but if you want a particular breed, for instance, a West Highlander Terrier, DON'T GO TO A BREEDER! Goodle West Highlander Terrier Rescue. There WILL be a rescue for any and every breed of doggie out there. Do your research, because I cried when 101 Dalmatians came out. Cute, cartoon spotted dogs, right? Wrong! They are NOT a good dog for children, but people were too stupid to make the distinction between real life and cartoons. The shelters were JAMMED with them. It nearly killed me. (If you haven't guessed by now, yes, I am an animal rights activist)
You take me to the shelter and instead of the adorable doggies jumping all over, I say "Give me that older or formerly abused one shivering in the corner) (S)he's going to know nothing but LOVE AND COMFORT THE REST OF HIS/HER LIFE!
Did you know only 1:10 kittens born find a home? Why? Because people are too stupid to spay or neuter their cat. If they can't afford it, they can't afford the kitty! I have my van rigged to rescue all kinds of animals and will even look in the pouch of fresh oppossum roadkill for living Joeys. Sorry, I got started. It's not what I do, it's who I am and thats a fierce fighter for atrocities being committed against domestic and wild animals worldwide. If you knew half of what I've seen in the last 7 years, you'd be completely traumatized. I am, always will be. But I can't quit. We're their voices and without us, who do they have?
Thanks for the forum and God Bless you for even considering rescuing a new furever family member. They know. Only UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! We miserable humans could/should learn from them.
