I have had this brooch for quite a while now, and I haven't known what to make of it. Many questions: how old is it, what's it made out of, who made it, etc. Few answers. I believe the monkey is carved out of bone, and it's surrounded by black rhinestones. The metal is plated and I don't know with what. But the oddest thing is that it has a very old style "C" closure for the pin on the back. This type of closure was mostly phased out after 1910, and I don't think this brooch is nearly that old, my guess is from the 1960s or 70s. So I don't know what to think, it's definitely a mystery. Thus is born Mystery Monkey Monday. I hope to list other mystery items in the future, and they will always start on Mondays (but probably won't all be monkeys).

The brooch can also be worn as a pendant. It measures 1 1/8" in diameter and is excellent condition although it can use a good cleaning. This is a cool little monkey who yearns to be out an about in the world worn on someones lapel, instead of being kept in a box on my desk.
