This is a bonus coin I got in an Ebay coin purchase. I make no guarantee on the coin. To me it appears to be what it says it is. Condition as scanned.

Questions & Comments

Interesting coin fact. The first year of issue, 1883, the coin was minted without the word cents. Many of these were gold plated and passed off as 5 dollar coins. Later that year cents were added to the coin to discourage this.

very true and the cents variety is the more desirable of the two even though it has a mintage of 16 million compared to 5 million of the no cents coin

And a lot of those 5 million were ruined by plating them, go figure.
