If they are a 6.5, but fit like an 8.5, that would mean they are originally sized in men's size 6.5, thus fitting women's size 8.5. Men's size are 2 sized below a women's,so 6.5 men's = 8.5 women's

A men's size 6 1/2 is the same as a women's size 8 1/2, so they are probably actually men's boots size 6.5 that's why they fit like a women's size 8.5. Haha hope that was helpful. LOL
I wear a size 6.5 in a women's shoe but i wear a size 4.5 in a men's shoe. Men's sizes are two sizes smaller than women's sizes. These are awesome boots, i wish they were my size because i would definitely be trying to win them! : )
