Here is a brief description of Ion Plating and I’m also including the link to a website that really explains this new and incredible plating process in extreme detail.
To begin, a layer of titanium nitride is added to the base surface of stainless steel. A final plating metal is added to the surface. This top layer is what gives the plating its color.
The process is carried out in a vacuum environment. Given its durability and chemical stability, ion plating is rightly called “permanent” coating.
The best part is that unlike electric coating, ion plated jewelry stays looking as good as new for decades.
