it is a plain gold back very shiny says "pat pending" which I thought was odd considering I can't see any other marking. LOL I can't see any flaws because it's an OLD piece belonged to my grand who would have been 113 yrs old so to me it looks amazing. Can't say with certainty if any may have "rubbed" off of the grapes but they still look very nice.

LOL I misunderstood you, the pin itself is fine. It closes nicely I don't know the style but it is a straight and that piece that goes around it.
