A BRIEF HISTORY OF OWLS HEAD MOUNTAIN - The annual Mountain Degree held by Golden Rule #5. The Owlís Head mountain top Masonic experience is widely known, and each year members of this fraternity come from afar. Masons have met on the highest hills and in the lowest vales to secure privacy. The tradition alone has been sufficient to stir the imaginations of modern Masons with the result that Masonic meetings have been held in many "strange and weird places,"
Masons from far and wide have been climbing Owl's Head in June every summer for nearly 150 years. In a ceremony that is shrouded in secrecy, they initiate new members to their mysterious rites. At the summit of the mountain is a natural rock formation known as the "World's Only Natural Masonic Lodge Room." Lichen-coated symbols may still be seen etched in the rocks.
