'Turquoise'... Well, that's a stone, semi-precious, sacred to the Native Americans, and used extensively in the SouthWest, AZ, New Mexico, Okla and West Texas areas, also Nevada, Colorado, utah.... The Problem is that what once amounted to vast reserves of High Grade Turquoise, mined across thge region, have dwindled to the point of Rarity when it comes to High Grade Nuggets of significant size, and, as a result, 'Real' Turquoise has become both difficult to find and Expensive! Much of what is marketed as Turquoise, today, is actually dyed Howlite, broken into pieces, dyed aqua, with silver edges, and then compressed together so that it closely resembles the true stone. Even when you manage to get 'REAL' Turquoise, it's is often 'Re-constituted (squashed together bits w/ glue and strands of silver or pyrite) to make a nugget, the mines are running low on bigger chunks of high Grade sone in USA. So, there's a lot of import, and that's where a lot of fake Howlite gets in. You can get slightly under a pound of Brazilian Turquoise for around $25.00, and from China:
1000g Natural Turquoise Rough Rock Polished Dyed Green China, or roughly 2 1/4 pounds for $57.99, whereas, good American Kingman Mine might go for $6-12 for an 8 gram slice,, and a 4 gram piece of high grade Natural Kingman Arizona Spiderweb Turquoise Rough can easily fetch $40. Turquoise has become one of the most difficult of stones to buy with the expectation of getting good value and an autehtic specimen...so many are fake! I hope this helps some, there are many, many offerings, but you have to take care not to get burned!

Yeah, these are a new product for me. They cost me a pretty penny, and they have some strong positive attributes! We'll just have to see how they auction, though as I have no experience with them! Sure are mighty pretty to look at, too, lol!!

Beautiful auction!! I collect turquoise & have pounds & pounds of Kingman in jewelry, raw ect..Nevada was the leading exporter for many years but most of their high quality mines are scarce veins. If one would want good quality turquoise they are better off buying vintage pieces or Kingman in the US..I have some beautiful specimens from now defunct Nevada mines that has become soooo valuable to serious collectors..All the specimens are logged & certified to their origin..And you do not get carried away either..It is so nice to have a thorough explanation with the info you have when too many people here will just say look it up online..Namaste :))
