Description

The listing, 2016 BU Australian Silver Kangaroo Coin has ended.

Winner will receive one 2016 BU 1 oz Australian Silver Kangaroo, shipped in a free AirTite capsule.

Since its discovery on the island continent, the kangaroo has been widely associated with Australia.
First recognized as a symbol of Australia in 1773, the kangaroo was officially included in Australia’s coat of arms in 1908 & is a fixture on national currency.
The worldwide fascination for the creature has consistently been captured in the Australian Gold Kangaroo bullion coin since 1986, but until now there was no silver counterpart.

The Silver Kangaroo is the first silver coin from Perth Mint produced with a purity of .9999 & is legal tender in accordance with the Australian Commonwealth Government’s Currency Act of 1965. It holds a face value of 1 AUD & features a unique security feature: a micro-engraved letter “A” inside the “A” in “Australian”, visible only under magnification.

On the reverse, the kangaroo engraving is extremely detailed, capturing the coarse texture of its fur. The design is a version of the classic red kangaroo pictured on the Australian Gold Kangaroo by Dr. Stuart Devlin, goldsmith and jeweler to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II graces the obverse of the coin.

The Silver Kangaroo is a component of Perth Mint’s Annual Australian Bullion Coin Program, which celebrates Australia’s diverse wildlife through depictions of its prominent native creatures: the kangaroo, koala, kookaburra, & platypus.

Yes, and a classic design- I always wanted a Kangaroo coin, but couldn't afford the gold ones. Plus I'm a silver bug anyway! They are even better in person...my pic is terrible, but I dislike using stock photos.
