On the back of the red part of the player is a battery cover with 3 raised dots. Slide the cover off towards the smallest dot. If there is a AAA battery in there, take it out. There is 2 silver springs in there where the battery was. Are they still shiny(No brown/green/white stuff on them)?

I have the 512MB(Metallic blue/white) version of this player:) It is a GREAT little player that plays for a looonnnnnnnggggg time on 1 AAA battery:) The gray part pulls out and looks like a thumb drive with buttons. The computer treats it like a thumb drive:) You just drag and drop your music to it:)
