Up for auction is 1 - 1865 Nickel 3 Cent Piece coin! According to the Whitman Red Book, this coin was produced because the silver 3 cent piece was hoarded by the public at the time. Designed by James B. Longacre, this coin was minted exclusively at the Philadelphia Mint through 1889. Its composition was 75% Copper and 25% Nickel. Only about 11.4 million coins were produced in 1865, and this Civil War Era coin is becoming harder to find in good/very good condition.
