The listing, 1969 Topps METS ROOKIE STARS w/ Amos Otis & Gary Gentry - Nice! has ended.
Amos Otis was a failed project for the Mets, appearing in only 67 games for New York, who gladly traded him to the royals after the 1969 season.
What a windfall for the Kansas City Royals!
Otis became the Royals first bona fide superstar, appearing in 5 All Star games, winning 3 Gold Gloves, and 4 times finishing in the top-10 of the MVP vote. He smashed double-digit home runs 11 times between 1970-1982, including a career high 26 in 1973. He even hit .478 with 3 homers in the 1980 World Series. He twice led the league in doubles and once in steals, and collected over 2000 hits, 1000 runs, and 1000 RBI in his career. 35 years later, he is still regarded alongside George Brett and Frank White as the cream of the crop from the 1970s Royals teams.
Gentry was a solid pitcher, winning 13 games in 1969 and 12 in 1971, with a good ERA, but will be best remembered for his appearance on the mound in the 1969 World Series. The rookie pitcher shut down an Orioles masher squad in his Game 3 start, pitching 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball for the win.
