I am not sure where this came from, probably we picked up at a flea market somewhere.

This is definitely one of a kind, unique, home made — you can see where some artist has shaped it, and then also left their markings or etchings on the back.

I am no expert at metals but it looks like melted pennies to me.

We had it in a temple (butsudan) — it stood out enough to work well in there & not get overlooked (since it is rather large) with the other various decorations; it mixed in well with high end and low end trinkets & adornments.

The personal attention this took to tool, makes the difference -- it stands apart from stamped out assembly line "all look alike" souvenirs.

It has a hanging loop at the top of the piece, but this is pretty heavy — 1.45 oz., maybe you would use it as a pendant, not sure I would? Maybe it would make a good bell clapper (?) -- that loop is very sturdy!
