The listing, LOOK! NEW! GARTH BROOKS Scarecrow CD **ALWAYS FREE SHIPPING** has ended.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to Nashville, here comes SCARECROW, a confident return to form for Brooks. Having apparently gotten that nasty rock thing out of his system, he returns to the wide-screen, Springsteen-with-spurs brand of pop-country that made him a mega-star in the '90s.

The first album of new Garth Brooks tunes of the 21st century pretty much picks up where records like ROPIN' THE WIND and NO FENCES left off. There's even a light-hearted duet with honky-tonk legend George Jones on "Beer Run" for any who were doubtful about Brooks's return to country music. The rest of SCARECROW is made up of power ballads, high-energy roadhouse romps (most notably the Trisha Yearwood duet on "Squeeze Me In," and the singular pop/rock/country paradigm upon which Nashville based the marketing plans of a thousand lesser imitators.

Always liked Garth a lot. My mom moved us from a relatively small town in Kansas (around 15,000 population, but it was the county seat) to Oklahoma City in August 1973, a month before my 15th birthday and my first year of high school - we were going to move to Yukon initially, but she found a better house and job in OKC - otherwise, I'd have been at Yukon High School the same year Garth was. My sister-in-law went to school (in OKC) with Vince Gill and I got to see him play in a bar one night with his group Mountain Smoke. There's a lot of talented musicians, actors, actresses and writers from Oklahoma. Thanks for offering this to bid on - I already have some of his cds and an early concert on video, too. Can't have too much of a good thing, though. :)

Oh, I dunno - we all left. lol It "only" took me 37 years to finally get out of there - minus 18 months spent in, of all places, Louisiana, but at least it was pre-Katrina. I was in OKC during the bombing and the first F5 tornado. As for any sort of fame and its pursuit, ya gotta get out to where "it's all happening", usually somewhere on either coast - besides NY or LA, for awhile, Austin, TX and the Washington/Oregon areas were hotbeds of simmering talent, too. One of these days, I'm gonna save up and get Garth's concert in Central Park. Trisha Yearwood's with him, as is Don McLean and Billy Joel. That's some seriously good music. I have Simon & Garfunkle's live concert from 1967, but would also like to have their reunion concert from 1981, as well as the Dave Matthews Band live in Central Park recordings (I have 4 concerts of him live in other places, two of them with Tim Reynolds) - love 'em all and a lot of other musicians, too. I have a rather eclectic mixture of influences, thanks to growing up with older and younger siblings, plus my mom and dad's own taste in music, too. My husband and I are both published poets - he also wrote one novel and is working on several others, plus he used to play jazz piano and drums in a band when he was younger - now he plays 2 wooden flutes, but just for his own pleasure - and mine, of course. Have a great evening and Happy Holidays to you and yours!
