Description

The listing, Mothers Sons Killed In War, Gold Star Mothers MNH & Info Card has ended.

Gold Star Mothers stamp issued to honor mothers whos sons had been killed in war. This MNH stamp, has been placed in a CLEAR, hingeless stamp mount and adhered to off white speckled card stock (thick paper) and them mounted on BLACK. Notice the yellowish color of the text to match the color of the stamp.

If you read the card, you will know why I chose the BLACK card stock.

This Gold Star Mother's card, can stand up, sit on a shelf, or you can cut the back flap and place it on a handmade page or what ever you would like to do with it.

The stamp can be removed carefully from either top or bottom as the hinge-less stamp mount opens vertically but has been adhered to the card using home made CLEAR glue dots. At first I only tacked on one side, as seen in photo #2, but after the photo shoot, I adhered both side on the back with the clear glue dots.

I have included the text on the card below:

Gold Star Mothers
Sept. 21, 1948 - Scott #969, Washington D.C.

Stamp was issued to honor mothers whose sons had been killed in war. A group of women formed the “American War Mothers”. Membership included women who had children serving in the war.

In May 1918, the Women’s Committee of National Defenses proposed to U.S. President Woodrow Wilson that mothers who had lost a family member to the conflict wear a black band with a gold star. Wilson agreed, and called them “Gold Star Mothers”. In 1929, Congress
authorized funds to enable Gold Star Mothers to travel to the battlefields of Europe to visit the gravesites of their fallen family members. Over the next three years, 6,692 women made the journey.
