The listing, MNH Australian Stamps - 1983 Commonwealth Day w/ gutter - Free International Shipping! has ended.
Up for your consideration is this set of mint, never-hinged stamps that commemorate Commonwealth Day 1983 (14 March 1983).
Commonwealth Day (originally called Empire Day and celebrated on Queen Victoria's Birthday) is celebrated on the second Monday of March. Beginning in 1983, all Commonwealth countries were required to issue a "Commonwealth Day" stamp wherein the profits would be donated to support Commonwealth Co-operation projects.
In 1983, Auspost issues this set of 4 stamps featuring open hands, doves, and colorful rainbows while quoting the main ideals of the "Commonwealth Declaration of Principles":
*Equality and Dignity
*Social Justice and Co-operation
*Liberty and Freedom
*Peace and Harmony
Stamps will be sent to you in a protective stamp card/glassine envelope. We are a smoke-free, pet-friendly home. Each stamp is a single but attached to a gutter with 4 color dots (which, I just recently learned are the ink checks of the colors used to print stamps...a way to make sure that the colors will match and be within the tolerance levels so all stamps look identical..cool huh?)
