This hard cover novel is in very good condition, read only once. Dust jacket in perfect shape, no writing or marks of any kind. Spine not creased at all. Slightly discolored end papers due to age, but still in giftable condition, in my opinion.

From Amazon: The recent horror/suspense film called The Ring was a remake of the Japanese film Ringu, which was in turn based on a 1991 novel that is now appearing in English for the first time. The novel, which tells the story of a journalist investigating the apparently simultaneous deaths of four teenagers, begins as a traditional mystery. But it glides smoothly into horror when the journalist discovers that all four victims watched a videotape that guaranteed their deaths in one week if they did not do a certain thing (details are missing from the tape). If the journalist can't figure out what happened, he, too, the tape prophesizes, is doomed. Told with a minimum of horror cliches, the novel creates a sense of slowly mounting dread, as though something unpleasant is inevitable, and we are powerless to stop it.

I didn't like the remake film so much but I heard Ringu is a fantastic book. I'm a fan of Japanese horror Id really love to read this book. Fan and watching :) Oh I also have a question is this the translated version of the original book or does it have American names?

This is the translated version of the original book by the publisher Vertical.

The names of the characters are transliterated Japanese. The main character, Kazuyuki Asakawa, is a man, not a woman, like the American movie. The little girl is Sadako Yamamura.

The book is a VERY different story than the movie, much more complex, with a richer mythology than the movie even hints at. The main elements are there, the missing little girl who has a power in psychic photography, the "you will die in 7 days" videotape, etc.... but I was amazed how those elements lie in the story as a whole in the book. In the book, those things are only elements, where in the movie, they ARE the story. The cursed tape in the novel is far different from the one in the movie.

And of course, Ringu is a series with 4 books. This is only the first chapter in the story. :)

Yes. Vertical Publishing released the entire series in English. You can get them at any library for free, or half.com, Amazon, or eBay for decent prices.
