Description

The listing, Auction! 2013 1/10 oz Gold American Eagle Brilliant Uncirculated - No GIN! No Starting Bid! has ended.

* This auction is for a 2013 1/10 ounce Golden Eagle minted by the US mint.

* I purchased it on eBay from the highly reputable, if not the most reputable precious metal sellers, APMEX.

* I've included an image from the 2nd page of the Email receipt for the coin back in 2013 when it was worth 40% more...

* I think this is the only auction on Listia for a 1/10 ounce Gold Eagle.

* It's a 7 day auction.

* There is also no GIN to disrupt your plans in bidding :-).

* Free insured shipping with adult signature required.

Thanks man. The gall of the mint to charge $160 now for a $5 coin:

You have to admit, the face value is kind of strange...

Sorry, here's a better quote: "American Gold Eagle coins are gold bullion coins produced by the U.S. Mint whose purity is guaranteed by the U.S. Government. Per the Gold Bullion Act of 1985, gold for American Gold Eagle coins comes entirely from within the U.S. The Act also stipulates the American Gold Eagle has a purity of 91.67% gold, or 22-karat." - 0.10 troy ounces pure gold/0.1091 troy weight of the coin = 0.9166 ratio of pure gold to weight of coin = 22 karats

Its plated not solid
Dec 21st, 2015 at 5:15:02 PM PST by
Original
No, it's not plated. It is 22 karat gold. That means it's 22 parts solid gold mix with 2 parts some other metal or metals. Plated items are not even 10K gold. Plating is almost worthless. I paid over $150 for this coin when gold was still high. See the last image for the receipt. If gold was over $1500 an ounce as it was then, the a tenth of an ounce coin as this one is, would be worth what I paid for it.

By the way as I reported earlier, the coin actually weighs more than a tenth of an ounce. Apparently making a coin out of 24 karat pure gold is not desirable because gold is too soft. The extra weight over the tenth of an ounce is what makes up the other 2 karats. It's 1/10 of an ounce pure gold and an extra 2/22 X 1/10 of an ounce of some additional metal mixed in to harden the coin.

So it is not pure, how would it be rated 10, 14, 18 or 24 karat

Dec 19th, 2015 at 2:49:14 PM PST by

Yeah you are right, it turns out it's 22 karat gold. The coin itself weighs slightly more than 1/10 of an ounce. It contain 1/10 of an ounce pure gold though and an extra 8.3% more of some other metal, silver I guess.

Thanks for the Kudos.

Gold coins are generally not circulated I'm guessing. I think it was purchased by APMEX straight out of the mint and then put in the plastic protector back in 2013 and hasn't been out since...

Sorry I can't fan back because my fanning to fanned ratio is too high at the moment and listia won't let me. When I get the power restore I will definitely fan you.
