Have you tried it? How does it taste?

Many nutritionally dense plants, don't taste that great for some reason.

Oh yes, I've tried all the ways. Inside the shell is a large white macadamia nut looking seed which taste like a pecan with that same slight bitter aftertaste. But it's the leaves that are my fav. Fresh they're sweet and very pleasant. Dried: they have no particular kind of taste in tea so I like mixing them with my dried rose sorrel. Or blend with all kinds of herbs and add directly into my cooking. Therefore you can choose to taste it or not too..but it will work the same regardless.

So what part of the plant, is the edible protein, etc obtained from?

Will it reach maturity (and bear seed) in one year, for places that have to treat it as an annual?

The leaves, flowers and seeds are all edible. A tea is made with dried leaves and the bark. All parts contain the same nutritional value. Which is great when treating as an annual because it's 'iffy' if you'll will have seeds BUT the leaves are abundant and don't stop producing. Especially when pinched back. In my pics you'll see one with a bunch of baby's around 3 weeks old 'from seed'..and they're just getting started.

I wonder if it can be semi bonsied, pruned back vigerously, both top and root, so it might be able to live inside, as a house plant in the winter, then go back out in the Spring. Maybe the light levels would be too low for it?

I keep a standard maple tree severely pruned, that got attacked by a strangler vine, and has a corkscrew looking trunk. It's about a 2 year old sapling.

I was going to cut it all the way down, but winter set in, and it leaved out in the spring, so I took pity on it and let it stay, as long as it stays short.

But that one is outside.

But I know nurseries root prune big trees for landscape gardening, to keep them portable.

And of course some bonsais reach maturity and flower as tiny examples of great trees.

If funny but for a while Moringa does look like a little bonsai! And I would imagine it as a good tree to raise as such. I've noticed it will only grow as large as its pot allows. Yet, remaining in a small pot doesn't kill it, it just doesn't produce as many leaves. Also, with a good bright and warm southern window-this plant can survive and grow indoors.
