Description

The listing, Antique Red Glass Bowl. has ended.

This is a pretty old glass bowl. I used it for the holidays with a bit of green depression glass that i have.
I've tried to search for some history on that particular dish, but i had no luck.
I thought, when i bid for it, that it was Ruby Red depression glass, but when i unpacked it I could see a clear glass rim about the bottom of the dish, and some paint loss on the handles.
The pattern on the outside make it a very pretty bowl either way!

I'm not sure how you'd look it up. I'd suggest Google it, using those words. You'll probably find out more about it than I could ever tell you. I'm still pretty much a novice at collecting antiques; but, I love the glass, and I know a lot of them, but nowhere near all. LOL =D I'd recommend if you're going to Google it, would say 'honeycomb glass', first because the word 'antique' will net you a gazillion things, and not get you what you want. So, 'honeycomb glass' first, then as a secondary search, add the word, 'antique'. I don't think the Ruby Red glass by Avon is antique. It IS vintage. The piece you have in the picture is an antique. I have seen an identical one in real life. I think, I was at an antique store, when I saw it. =D You are like me, on one wise: like you, I prefer the green depression glass; although, I don't have much of it. I love the Fostoria glass, and also love Fenton pieces. In recent times, I've gotten some very pretty pieces that aren't either one. I love just about anything that has the tiny pink porcelain roses on it. LOL =D I could talk about antiques all day. I need to see if I have fanned you. =D

Yes, I have very eclectic taste also...I'm not so good at collecting, because i can't keep my mind on one color or style :o) I just like something and get it...at least in the past. I do want to settle down and collect one color at least!

Is this one made before 1916 then or in the 70's? I ask b/c anything that's 100 years or older is antique. I grew up around it all and have some very pretty Fenton pieces along with my grandmother's old China set from the 1930's and on up to I don't know when! I wish I would've seen this piece from the start! I would've been able to help you more with the research. Get me going and I could talk about it forever! I wish Listia had a chat area so that we could just chat away! Watching this though!

The pattern on the sides make it to be called the 'Honeycomb' pattern. The paint worn off the handles is normal for its age. This one is a true antique. Is not the Red Ruby pattern as this one is not Avon. Red Ruby pattern was put out by them. I know a lady that her whole China cabinet is full of that stuff because she has the WHOLE SET, INCLUDING THE ACCESSORIES TO IT. She wants to sell the whole set as one unit if possible. I do not know how much she wants for it. I can try to find out, if you are interested. Message me here. Thanks. Good luck with your auction. =D

Wow! Thank you for all that information!! The "Ruby Red" I was thinking of was Depression glass, but i really like the Avon set too. I have a little bit of the green depression glass, my sister collects the pink and she has so so much!
So to look up this bowl, i would enter Antique Honeycomb dinnerware? Thank you so much!!

I kept looking and found this one

I found one other after more searching:

Vintage Indiana Glass Honeycomb or Pattern #10 ruby red round relish dish. This vintage Honeycomb dish has 2 open handles and a smooth inside with a scalloped rim. The Honeycomb pattern is on the outside of the glass bowl. Measures about 7 1/2 inch diameter without handles. The low flared bowl is about 1 1/2 inches high. Produced in the red color during the early 1970s.

There are no cracks, chips or flakes.
