I too have a stamped ring that turned out to be plated. It seems if it's made overseas they aren't held to, or at least don't follow, the same standards. I actually won the ring on here and it can be seen, stamp and all, in my won auctions. Took a week for the plating to come off.

That really would be your best bet, because I'm seeing it more and more, here and in physical stores, where it's stamped and isn't really sterling. I wanted a mystic topaz soooo bad, and now I have 3 topazes and 4 amethysts (yes they were fake and I knew that but it was fine) in an ugly chipped band and no one wants that.

Almost the exact same experience here but I fell in love with the ring so I had a sterling silver one made out of the stones from the fake ring .....still waiting for it.....lol

It was a heart mystic topaz with a heart amethyst on each side of the main stane
