Glad you asked. I had never opened it and looked because my dog ended up not using it. 5 come with it and you can use any type of sanitary napkin on it.

is there a hole in the butt for the tail? I ususally use baby diapers for my dogs, but it's a pain to cut out a hole for their tails (not to mention messy-the diaper filling gets all over)

Yes there is a hole. To make one would be horrible. I should have flipped it over so the hole can be seen.
