Description

The listing, STUNNING! 3 Carat Genuine Topaz & Faux Marcasite Sterling Silver Necklace has ended.

I am giving away an amazing genuine baby blue topaz sterling silver necklace with faux marcasite necklace. It is brand new, but has an antique-look to it. Trust me, the pictures do not do this necklace justice! You will love it! The 1st pic is with flash, and the 2nd pic is without.

I, personally, professionally tested the pendant to ensure that the topaz is genuine with a Presidium Gem Tester (please see the 5th pic).

The chain is 16" long. The pendant is approximately 1 1/8" long. The topaz is 10 mm long x 8 mm wide, and it is three carats (I used this chart as a reference http://www.ajediam.com/Oval_diamond_sizes.html. This URL is provided for informational purposes only and it is not against Listia's policies). The chain and pendant are marked 925 (please see pics 3 & 4. I know that the 925 on the pendant is hard to see, so I marked it with an arrow).

Comes from a smoke-free, hairy pet-free home (I have a snake and gecko, but they can do no harm : ) ).

I will only ship to addresses that have been verified via Listia's shipping address rules (check out Listia rules: Shipping Addresses section or go directly to the form at: http://www.listia.com/account/addresses) & that have been sent to me directly through Listia (& not through e-mail), which can be done after the auction ends. If you are not willing to send me your shipping address directly through Listia, then I cannot ship this to you. I know that the Listia system messes up some people's addresses, and if you are one of those ppl, I totally understand and I will ship this to you if you send me your Listia address and message me after the auction your true address (don't worry...the Listia address will show up as invalid in my postal payment program anyway because I check your address against USPS records before I pay for it online, so I can't send the package to an address Listia messed up).

Shipping to US will be done via First Class mail & includes tracking & is FREE.

Thanks! I bought this necklace for myself, and I opened the box, and I literally gasped. It's absolutely gorgeous! Well, if you like sparkly necklaces, it's gorgeous. The faux marcasites shine like crazy (they almost look like little diamonds)! My camera just doesn't do it justice (I know, I said it before, but I really mean it)!

are you sure the marqusite is faux? With all the other things genuine I can't see why they wouldn't finish it off with genuine Mar. I don't know if they told you that or how you know. I do know that genuine marqusite can not be scratched with a knife? Don't know exactly what your situation is but just thought I'd throw that out there. It really is beautiful. thanks for posting that

I'm pretty sure. I checked it with my gem tester, and the needle went all of the way into the diamond section & beeped (but, it's not a diamond) which means that either the marcasite could be plated with metal (sometimes that happens) or it's simply metal (my needle always goes into the diamond section when it tests metal...and the gem tester beeps...the beep indicates that I hit metal when I was trying to test a stone). But, the topaz is 100% genuine. Thanks for asking!

Thanks! There's only about 3 hours left! This will be getting shipped out today to the winner. Usually my auctions end at some awful time (like 4:00 a.m.). I'm going to try to time them better from now on so that they end sometime in the afternoon.

Nope. They are (what I believe to be) faux marcasites. They could be genuine marcasites plated with silver, but just to be safe, I said that they are faux marcasites. I have a gem tester, and they didn't test as genuine marcasites. They shine like crystals (actually, more like diamonds), though. Actually, they shine like crazy! They are splendid (that's the part of the pendant that my camera really screws up). My camera simply doesn't do them justice.

Thanks! Yes, this necklace is really, really pretty. When I opened the box, I actually gasped! Even though I think it's gorgeous, I decided to put it up on Listia anyway. Trust me, it's so much nicer in person. That's why, for this auction only, I will personally pay the winner the return S&H fee if he/she doesn't like this necklace (none of my other auctions have that guarantee, but I also think that my camera does a better job at representing the beauty of the items in those auctions). My camera simply doesn't do this necklace justice.

The chain is solid sterling silver. You can see the 925 stamp on the clasp in the third picture (you will have to use the "View Larger" button to see it).

Watching and fanned you. I LOVE Marcasite, have no idea about genuine but have bought a few rings at Walmart that LOOK nice. When I dealt years ago in Antiques, other dealers told me that Marcasite is cut steel. It's too complicated for me, with meters etc. I just enjoy it. SOME of it says STERLING on the back too. Some dealers charge a LOT if it says that.

Really? They told you that it was cut steel? Well, marcasite is the mineral iron pyrite. I just love marcasite because it shimmers and shines, but not in a gawdy way. And, yes, this necklace was expensive! Trust me, it's so much nicer in person. My camera doesn't do it justice.

Where do you get a tester like that and about how much do they cost? I have never heard of it before. So they mix the mineral iron pyrite with other things to make the jewelry and then facet it???? Is it mixed in with the silver ie Sterling????

Picture?type=square&access token=105469222550%7cd qfyki0ggnddypmnoq3ykmtsyq
Well, I bought my tester from iGem instruments. You can buy it off of amazon or e-bay. It's a Presidium Gem Tester, and it costs about $200.00. I also bought a separate diamond/moissanite tester because the Presidium Gem Tester doesn't test for moissanite. Marcasite is a natural mineral. It is mined and then cut to be used in jewelry. Here is a little more information about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcasite Sometimes, jewelers will coat marcasite with metal to help protect it from disintegration. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask :)

you know what now that I think about it the marquisite I read about on google seems to me there is no more "real" marquisite. It is only old that is genuine, yeah I think that's what it said, that's why I keep thinking wy are people saying real maquitie? think you are the only one I hav heard say it was faux. Now that I really think about it that's what it said. I'm going to have to read that again. Look it up and see what you find. I feel like a detectivenow. Next time I see that I want to say LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE LOL its late I gotta go to bed before I lose what is left of my mind. Have a good one. thanksfor the chat

Oh, there is still real marcasite out there, but you have to get it from Thailand! Yeah, I know, sounds crazy. I recently bought some loose marcasite off of E-bay (I tested it, so I know that it's real) so that I could restore an antique necklace that I won off of e-bay (it was missing over 200 marcasite stones!) BTW, every gem that I have ever bought off of E-bay from sellers from Thailand has been genuine (and natural!) Can't say the same thing for sellers from Australia, China, and Hong Kong, unfortunately. If you can msg. me that google link, I would be really interested in reading it (just curious).

this is the definition I have for marqusite: whte iron pyrite contains disulfide ion cannot be scratched by a knife don't know if that helps. iron pyrite is also called "fools gold" but that is just part of it. marqusite is not a gem it is akindof decorative metal. see if you can scratch an out of the way place with a pocket knife. I don't know also look it up on google They had a lot of info there. good luck. let meknow.

Well, my gem tester tests for marcasite. If a stone is genuine marcasite, the needle moves into the jadeite/spinel family section (it's the section right before the topaz area...you can see it in the 5th pic). I have tested many marcasite with this result. Actually, just recently gave away a different genuine topaz/marcasite necklace in this auction: http://www.listia.com/auction/2733226-genuine-3-carat-emerald-cut-topaz-silver and you can see that I tested the marcasite in the pics. But, instead of the needle moving into the jadeite/spinel family this time, it moved into the diamond area and my tester beeped. :( So, either it's marcasite coated with metal (which it could be...I have a couple of necklaces like that), or it's just metal.
