Excellent question... This hat does not come with X's stamped in the band. I would guess, as it was given to my husband, that the marking may have been a tab or marked paper inside when it was new. I worked in a quality western store in Austin for 3 years, I would guess this is a 2 X hat, as it is stiffer than the greater X hats with the higher the fur content, and the greater softness, flexibility of the hat itself. My husband did remove the tiny grosgrain ribbon band that would have come on it , and put a nice band on himself which is not included. This is why I mentioned a nice Horse Hair band would dress it up, but as you can see in the pictures, it looks fine as is...and may be re-creased to your desire. About a 25 min. drive...I would be more than happy to meet you about half way in the parking lot of Crossroads Mall at I-10 & Loop 410 if that sounds good... It would need to be in the daylight hours though. I will only be home till Thur, then I will be gone for 2 weeks. Other wise we would need to meet at the Rim Shopping center near my house, off I-10 West and La Cantera Dr. at the Mc Donalds... Good luck!!
