nope, you have to be able to access the wii shop channel in order to redeem the download ticket, or in others words yes this requires your wii to connect to teh internet for the download. After you download it you can play offline.

just so theres no confusion, you will need your wii to be able to go online to the wii shop channel to download this game. Game play is offline however, you only need internet to download the game
