This is the 64 bit version, so if you have a 32bit PC (x86) then this will NOT work for you. There are methods to check if your computer is 64 bit capable (x64), Google it to find out how: "How to verify if my PC is x64 capable"

I got this with my current Dell XPS. Whats great about this Win7 DVD is that you can install it on ANY DELL PC without needing a serial.

No activation required as well. These type of Dell disks check the computers BIOS to see if its a GENUINE Dell computer. If it is, then it installs a special key that doesn't require activation. Basically, this disc will only work on Dell computers (laptop or desktop), so don't ask if it will work on another brand.

Its the complete OS, so you can install it on a fresh/formatted hard drive.

Again, Just to be clear. This will install on a Dell that had XP, VISTA, or WIN7. NO ACTIVATION KEY required. I have installed these type of disks on HUNDREDS of Dell pc's.

I've installed an XP reinstallation disk successfully to a custom built desktop computer -- only downside is it asks for a key in 30 days. I've heard that an unactivated Windows 7 will shut down periodically every 1 hour if a key is not used. Will it be the case with this one if I install it on a non-dell computer? It's fine as long as I don't have to enter the key at the installation screen.

To avoid activation, you gotta install on a Dell. You can use this one a non Dell PC, but it will ask you to activate it since it knows you installed it on a non dell pc.

Since Vista, you dont have to enter a serial key when installing. Just hit the continue button and it will use the embedded 30 day trial key. From there you do what you gotta do to activate it if not installing on a dell, So yeah, it will work on a non dell pc, but you gotta find software to make it work. I wont go into those "other" means here, but I used this very disk to install win7 on a Gateway laptop.

Even with all that, please only use this on a Dell. Its genuine and you wont have to mess with activations. Install and MS will think it came with your pc.

Ive only used it 2x. I just checked it and I would say there is one minor one from sliding into and out of the sleeve. Nothing that would prevent it from installing. I never stacked it on anything without the sleeve, I never tossed it anywhere without the sleeve, I never used it as a coffee coaster. As soon as it was done, back in the sleeve.

To run a 64-bit version of Windows, your computer must have a 64-bit-capable processor. To find out if your processor is 64-bit-capable in Windows 7 or Windows Vista, do the following:

Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type Performance Information and Tools, and then, in the list of results, click Performance Information and Tools.

Do one of the following:

In Windows 7, click View and print detailed performance and system information.

In Windows Vista, click View and print details.

In the System section, you can see what type of operating system you're currently running under System type, and whether or not you can run a 64-bit version of Windows under 64-bit capable. (If your computer is already running a 64-bit version of Windows, you won't see the 64-bit capable listing.)

To see whether a computer running Windows XP is capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows, do the following:

Click Start.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

If "x64 Edition" is listed under System, your processor is capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows.

If you don't see "x64 Edition" listed, your processor still might be capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows. To find out for sure, download and run the free Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor from the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor webpage.

I'm pretty sure the Phenom II x4 975 processor is compatible with a 64bit sys. I just got stuck installing from a dell disk myself from an older 32bit system.

@deanya why not just tell everyone to write a thousand word essay,, to see if your computer is a 32 or 64 bit just click on start then right click your computer and click properties it will show the specs of your computer listed under system no other clicking is needed simple really,just 3 clicks and you will know.
