Yes, these are actually healing quartz crystals. High energy and healing energies. But, not a diamond, but totally worth the bids... :):) beautiful f&W
Personally, I love Herkimer Diamonds. Regardless that they aren't actually diamonds, the retail for them isn't cheap. They are very beautiful stones and you did an awesome job with this ring as well as your other listings. Definitely a new fan of yours!! :)
Anyone know why they are called "HERKIMER" Diamonds? Is it the Area that they are found? The 1st person that found one and it was named after them? I've heard about these Quartz for years and wondered for ever why they are called a "HERKIMER" Diamond? Anybody? Thanks Guys! EV (=
This more of a historical answer than a geological one. They are named after General Herkimer and the "diamond" term was given to enhance their marketting, due to their clarity and bright sparkle. But the name "Herkimer diamond" is not an official quartz variety name (like the name amethyst). Thus far there is no research to indicate that the quartz from Herkimer county is chemically or morphologically unique. But the lack of science doesn't change the popularity of the name and its widespread use.
Although other locations that produce small quartz crystals with a similar form, the name Herkimer diamond should be applied only to those quartz crystals found in the Herkimer district. But there are a wide range of quartz habits in the Herkimer district.
Well technically a "Herkimer diamond" isn't a diamond at all. It's a quartz. But I was wondering about the shape of it. I couldn't tell from photos. Thank you for clarifying though!
