Nice Auction. It's unbelievable how many of these they need to publish. Unfortunately the worst parents live in denial and would walk right by a book like this never in a million years acknowledging let alone accepting that it.was written for their children.

You know the sad thing about parental abuse is that it is epidemic now..and the abused child often finds themselves in a marriage that turns out to be just as abusive, if not more abusive than what they already went through, or the person becomes another abuser with their own children,.I feel VERY strong about helping to stop this in our society..or at least make people more aware that it happens right under our nose, your neighbors kids may be in a very abusive home and you would never know.Thanks for your input Millerbo, Brightest blessings!

So true...but the ones that are injured often become the ones who heal the others so it must be necessary in the grand scheme of things. Believing that helps me on bad days....

This was actually published in 1989..I didn't find this until a couple of years ago.I had been working to heal my soul for over 25 years when this gem came a long.You know, I think it would be easier to start a support group on Fb rather than a thread here on Listia, and that';s a great idea, abuse comes in many forms, not just in alchoholic homes.E-mail your address and we can chat about it, if anybody else is interested, please feel free to email me also!

I so agree with you on that Pamela.Too many adults are suffering because they don't know how to deal with their feelings about their own abuse. It is so sad. Therapist can only do so much and sometimes the system gets overwhelmed with so many people that it doesn't have the staff to really help everyone in the community.

Every one has thier secrets, but hurt from childhood is very hard to shake, I suffer from post traumatic stress disorder and manic depression. and anxiety, there is nothing worse than living in an environment where you grow up in fear and not trust the very people that you were born to, So I too believe this book would be your answer to helping you to "cope" with the ongoing crap you hold in and deal with I have loving conselling and my meds doctor and my happy pills to allow me to live,
though the book won't heal your wounds, you will get relief in the knowledge from it and will help you to help your self get through your coping so I really do recommend this book to you, and you can be free to just be your self.

That's so true laure3d! we are like an onion, we heal one layer only to find a year or so later, there is another layer, this book cuts through the illusions and goes straight to what you need to hear most, so that you can heal. Wow, it's sad that there are so many of us who could benefit from this book. I was an only child in a single parent home so I got ALLLLL of the abuse. Didn't matter if she was mad at me, her parents, her boss, or herself. It all went on me both mental and physical. I'm convinced she is bipolar. She still doesn't take any responsibility or admit any fault. When she first met some of my current friends I felt like she was actually on her best behavior. After she left they told me how horrified they were by the way she treated me during the visit. Even my mother in law has told her off before over it.

Normally I would say it's comforting to know I'm not alone but to be honest it just makes me sad that there are so many of us.

But you are strong, and you don't have to live with that abuse any longer.Now is the time to heal...at least start to heal..sometimes it takes years.And NO you are not alone. I may start a support group on FB, for all of those needing to vent, and a safe place to go to let it all out.Peace girl.

Hi Im a new fan! I agree with everything everyone is saying! I wanted to say Im totally up for a support group! I wanted to say that out in the open hoping others will also be willing too. I will message you also after I write this. Im watching this as well and if I dont win I am definitely interested in finding one to buy! Thanks for listing such a great auction! I to came from a very abusive up bringing. Im just now learning about it and the damage it has caused. I have kids now and Im breaking that chain. I think bipolar also runs in my family. I don't understand how some people can be! I really would like to learn more.
It also makes me sad to think there are so many of us, but at least there are more resources and ways to learn from it all. This is such a great auction! :)

Thanks and yep you're right. It's hard sometimes but I'm just relived it's over now. As terrible as it was I wouldn't change it, I CERTAINLY wouldn't want to live through it again either, but I wouldn't change it. It's a part of my history and if I didn't have such a difficult childhood then I might not be who I am today. I think it's helped make me more understanding and compassionate of the hidden reasons people act the way they do at times.

All that being said I do really miss not having that maternal and family connection. I know I'm missing something.

I like the idea of a group but I don't have a FB (I know most people do). If you decide to do one not on FB please let me know though.

I want in on this too. I will definitely bid, and I want the book, but I would feel bad taking it from someone who may need it more than I do. I too came from an alcoholic home, my mother has many issues even this late in life. She continues to hurt her children. I've read so many good books, and they're helping alot! So i will bid and if I'm meant to have it I'll win. If I lose....then that's good too because it went to someone else who needed it more. Hi Sandra ... Wow! This is really overwhelming! But, in a good way! :) I wish I had the money to buy a hundred copies of this book and give them out. :) It was mostly my Step-Mother who was abusive and the fact she had been a Staff seargent in the Army, I think made it worse. Out of 4 kids, myself and my hal-brother got the abuse and I the most. her kids were perfect naturally ... anyway, what I resent the most about my childhood, is the fact that I continue re-creating the family dynamics, trying to get it right, without even knowing I am doing it! I don't know who is playing which part, however, I do know this is what is going on. And, I don't even know when I am doing it. I just want it to stop! I am 68 years old, even though I feel like I am in my 30's (hard to believ, huh, lol) and here I am, stll trying to escape or make sense out of my childhood! What a waste of life. :( I would love to have this book to see if it can help me change the last few years of my life "normal" and as you said (and so did God) joyful ones as God intended ... He said that we were created, that we might have joy! Thank you for posting this. I was just checking things out and I was drawn to check out the books on here and there it was! Thanks! :) Oh, and count me in on the support group and why don't you check out Yahoo groups ... easy to use and lots of tools, including chat. :)

This is a photo of me and my mother after the healing process, I thought was complete. But, I still have trouble with my thoughts of childhood. She was not the alcoholic, my farther was. She took it out on me and my siblings. I posted this picture to remind me she's a changed person now and I love her dearly. Their is hope and I'm healing still. I've read many self help books and try to staty positive but, never read a book like this, never thought about life they way some do. I always strive for new ways to help me get over the pain of my childhood and believe it or not looking at this pic everytime I log on makes me smile on our new realationship with each other. :) fanned and watching. I would love anyone who has parents with alcohol problem attending AAA meeting beside counseling, group supporting and reading this book. You can be the role model as well as a true friend of a person who needs your advice. I am so touched by your Warm heart and the love of humanity.

I know that 95% of people that go into mental health counseling, have either been through some sort of traumatic childhood, how can you really have compassion for others unless you have been through a painful childhood, with alchohol, drugs, incest and other stuff yourself.
