this only works for a silver account. So if he currently has gold he can only use it when his subscription runs out and reverts back to silver

yea, what pitpro said is right. although i have found that the expiration date on them doesnt matter. this one is new, came with call of duty mw2, but i redeemed a 1 month code a week or so ago that expired in 2007 and it still worked, so you could save this for him when he needs it.
