Questions & Comments
Do a magnet test! If it attaches to a magnet then it is just metal. As gold or silver will not attach to a magnet. Hope this helps! It is very pretty through.
um,thanks for the advice, but the madnet test is not an accurate trest for precious metals as even the vintage costume jewelries made from the base metals back in the day do not stick to a magnet. the magnet test will only test for steels and irons as we all know jewelry is made with several different base metals now days so even if I did a magnet test it would not tell me what metal is actually in this ring, it could be a base metal of nickel alloy and that would not stick to a magnet. the only sure fire way to test a metals purity is through one of two ways. 1. stampings on the inside of the band or 2. have it tested by a metalergist/jeweler. thanks for the input but I have worked with jewelry/rings for many many years now and know all the tricks of the trade and so when I list here on Listia if the item isnt stamped or I know for certain what it contains then I will just say I am not sure what the metal is because saying it passed the magnet test is really giving someone false information into them thinking it is definately a precious metal. I used to tell ppl it passed the magnet test but after 2 auctions saying that it really bothered me because thats when I realized I could be giving someone false hopes into thinking my product could be worth alot of money just because a magnet did not stick to it.so I no longer follow that practice and give the advice to others to follow that practice as well.
sorry for the spelling, I hate this keyboard so much, lol and I have been babysetting my 2 young grand children all day and somy fingers are definately not cooperating with me tonight hehe
I usually tell people if an item is not marked the item is MUK (metal unknown) N I do the magnet test N let them know that item did attach to magnet. Meaning not I repeat NOT gold/silver. I am nothing but honest in my descriptions of jewelry, cause all it takes is one wrong move N ya are no longer a trusted seller. It is like a permanent marker it can never be erased.
Ye i know thats why i just dont even mention the magnet test as then you have to explain what it does and then if you say it didnt stick tot he magnet that means it could be a precious metal and then you are in a whole other ballpark like i said ,so i just say it is not stamped so i do not know the metal. works best for me to not even get into the whole magnet thing as some magnets are not even sticky enough to stick steel, you would have to have a good magnet as i did one on a ring once and one magnet didnt stick but the other one did so it is taken by each user how they use it.
