+++++++++++++++ TOPPS - 1969 AMERICAN LEAGUE STRIKEOUT LEADERS +++++++++++++++

Featuring "Sudden Sam" McDowell
Samuel Edward Thomas McDowell (born September 21, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania), is a former professional baseball pitcher. He played fifteen seasons in Major League Baseball.
Tall (6 feet, 5 inches) and powerful, his left-handed fastball was delivered with an unusually calm pitching motion which led to his memorable nickname: "Sudden Sam." His strikeout prowess was sometimes nullified by periodic control problems.

Michael Stephen Lolich (born September 12, 1940 in Portland, Oregon) is a former Major League Baseball pitcher from 1962 until 1979 who played the majority of his career with the Detroit Tigers.
Lolich is best known for his performance in the 1968 World Series, when he allowed just five runs in three complete games, winning all three including the final and decisive game (beating Bob Gibson). Mickey also helped himself at the plate in Game 2, when he hit the first and only home run of his 16-year career.

John Alexander "Andy" Messersmith (born August 6, 1945 in Toms River, New Jersey) is a former Major League Baseball right-handed pitcher. He was the 12th overall pick of the 1966 amateur draft by the California Angels. During a 12-year baseball career, Messersmith pitched for the California Angels (1968–72), Los Angeles Dodgers (1973–75 and 1979), Atlanta Braves (1976–77) and the New York Yankees (1978).

"Sudden Sam" could have been one of the all-time greats had he not played for some absolutely awful Indians teams and had alcohol not derailed him.

I know,..i remember watching him, back in time when i really enjoyed watching baseball. To me it's something about that era,....from about the mid 60's to the late 70's. But ya....Sam could have been a good one,...some people were never destined to go far, no matter what you thought about them,....anyways,..you take care !!! Thnx 4 the comments !!
