No studio ghibli product would bemultiple movies per disc (Miyazaki is a stickler for quality), they would be region 3 locked. That is also not the Taiwan distributor, which is IVL. The company name is deliberate to make people think it's China Star, which still has nothing to do with Ghibli

The back of the box you says Taiwan, and Malaysia is the #1 producer of bootleg DVDs. The disc lacks Malay language options, and IVL is still the distributor of Ghibli outside of Japan in Asia. Again, Ghibli would never allow two, let alone three of their movies to be crammed on one disc, ever, by anyone.


This is a bootleg, and just because they haven't been busted doesn't mean a thing. Son May CDs were around until the piracy market moved online, they were never raided, and also based in Taiwan. These again, would be region 3 locked to prevent reverse importation into Japan, where they are far more expensive.


Call Studio Ghibli. They'll tell you the same. I've worked in this area. The most telling thing is that there is no hologram, and that hologram wouldn't say "Studio Ghibli DVD Video", and no copyright information on the box ((c)Studio Ghibli/Nibariki, the Toei copyright on Cagliostro etc etc)

And if that's not proof enough, there's a rating sticker on the back from "Dead Space Aftermath" that's part of the artwork, obviously put there by someone who doesn't read or speak English.

The price on the cover is in RM, which is mainland China currency, not MYR, or even Taiwan dollars. And of course every real product is "original DVD"

It's a pirate disc. Just like two doZen or more other Ghibli collections.

Do I really need to keep going?

I'm sure you did give them real money in good faith. You're still buying pirate goods. Most of the things are issues that would result in the pulling of any distributor's license, and are the same "mistakes" that occur again, again, and again on knockoff products.

No region lock? No copyright information? Those missing alone would get you sued and are a direct violation of the licensing deal. The price is under $20 US. Which would normally be able to be chalked up to local exchange rates and cost of living. Except that the price of their movies is consistent across world markets, and $20 US is about what it costs PER MOVIE.

I've been involved in such things for nearly 20 years, and have worked many times for IP lawyers and venues to identify bootleg product. If you don't believe me, contact Ghibli. They will tell you exactly what I did.

If you notice, the price, which is a very small markup from SRP is twice what your entire box set is. For one movie.

The Malaysian supplier will lie to you. I've already provided proof that Star is not a licensed distributor in Hong Kong, Malaysia, or Taiwan. Contact Deltamac, who is the legit distributor in Taiwan where this collection claims to be from on the pictures you provided.
