This is a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 40 GB hard drive. I removed it from a working machine, so, it should still be working. This would be great as an extra drive,

Probably not, As far as I know Sony only made laptops. Laptops use a 2.5 or 1.5 inch drive. This is a 3.5 inch drive that should work with most destop systems.

Sony what? No TV's or tablets... It is a standard 3.5 inch drive.

I tested this drive earlier today and it worked fine. It has been re-formatted with an NTFS file system, so it will be ready to use with Windows.

It is for a PC. Not sure if it will work in a MAC. Never dealt with them, so, not sure what type of equipment they use......

This HDD should work in most systems that take IDE. This one is a Jumper set HDD and can be set to slave, master or Cable Select. As was stated this is a 3.5" IDE HDD 40 GB. Here is a web link i got from looking at the Model #: ST340016A:

As noted earlier this drive has been reformatted as NTFS (it was also re-partitioned). So all data is gone.
