So if u connect to hdmi port on any HD TV and don't have cable u will still be able to view live tv,but do u have to have a paid subscription to either Netflix, (we do) amazon,etc. Or none at all? One per room? any additional adapter kits?

I ordered one of these myself today. No adapters are needed besides what comes with it. It's very similar to AppleTV and Chromecast. There are some live channels/apps but emphasis is more on Netflix, Hulu and that sort of thing. You need one per TV as it plugs into HDMI directly. If you have other questions let me know :).

You're very welcome. I actually have an AppleTV gen 4 (newest one) and I LOVE it but there's one app that they haven't made available yet: "Sling TV". Sling has a lot of live content but also lets you watch recorded stuff for a bunch of channels. It's not free, but having the native app available on the Amazon Fire TV makes it worth buying alone for us. This way we don't need to stream from our computer as we do currently with our Apple TV.
