The listing, DVD FRANKENSTEIN & THE MONSTER FROM HELL, HAMMER HORROR,1973 PETER CUSHING &HIS SECRET LAB CREATURE has ended.
Dr. Helder (Shane Briant) is experimenting w/ re-animating the dead. Unfortunately for him it's the 19th century, and his work is considered to be "sorcery". He is committed to an insane asylum. Once inside, Helder encounters harsh treatment at the hands of the asylum guards (aka: thugs), until he is introduced to Dr. Karl Victor (aka: Baron Victor Frankenstein, and not dead as all thought), played by horror icon PETER CUSHING. Helder is taken on as Victor's assistant. Victor's kindness toward the patients is in sharp contrast to the sadism of the guards. Some strange things occur, causing Helder to suspect that Victor is secretly living up to his family name! After finding Victor's hidden laboratory, Helder is enlisted to help in the experiments, and quickly discovers just how far his new colleague is willing to go in his quest to create a re-animated being! FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL is a macabre, semi-gruesome entry in the HAMMER film canon. Made in 1973, it's much better than I expected. The MONSTER (David Prowse- A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, STAR WARS)is an ape-like brute, not unlike TROG. The creature sleeps a lot, but upon waking, he finds that he has the hands of an artist and the brain of a genius WARNING. Just don't anger him!!! A tasty bucket of ghoulish goulash.
