region 1. All Downton Abbey DVDs are region 1. From

Every DVD legitimately manufactured has a region code which was invented to prevent Asian piracy.
USA code is region 1.
Region codes indicated on the back of the box in a box with the number inside it or "ALL" which means that it will play in all regions..
DVDs manufactured in England and Europe are Region 2 which will not play in US machine except on all region players.
England and Europe are Region 2 will also have "PAL" in the same area below the credits near the bottom on the back of the box. This is another indication that the discs will not play on US machines.
Always look for "NTSC" in the same area which is an indication that the discs will play on US machines.
There are a lot of DVDs around here which are region 2 or 3 (for Asia) which will not play on US machines.
If your DVDs were made in England they should either be Region 2 which will not play on most machines here or they might be "ALL" region discs which will play on most machines here.

Season 4, 5, and Christmas at Downton Abbey are Blu-Ray
