First coin, if I remember correctly, is an 8 maravedi coin from Spain. It's been a number of years since I've seen one, but think that's what it is. As the coin wore down, they would counter mark it with a new value, since at the time coins value was basically the metal content. There's a strong 1655 and VI denoting the new value. By that, seems to be a counter mark of 8. On the other side, there's a counter mark that I'm unsure of, maybe a castle? Someone with more knowledge and or time can figure this out more. Might be IIII for 4
