The last time I used it was about 30-40 years ago. It worked at that time. It needs flint and fluid.

are there any makers marks on it-on the bottom or on the side of the wick snuffer?

There is the word "Penguin" on the right side near the wick snuffer. On the other side is the letter P with a circle around it. On the bottom it says: Japan, Penguin High Quality, Superlative Automatic Lighter, No. 18250
