I know it was hard on my Mom when my 3 oldest brothers were in Vietnam. One was right up in front where the biggest share of the fighting was going on, one was a fuel truck driver for the Army and the other was on a ship. That didn't keep him safe either because they got shot at by heavy artillery. He was part of the munitions crew that handled very explosive items in the deck under the waterline. They were locked in once they were down there, because if the ship got hit below the water line, only that deck would flood and not the whole ship. My Mom and I wrote them letters almost everyday. They all came home, but not necessarily the same men who left to go to Vietnam.
Not knowing from one minute to the next or one day, week, or month was very nerve wracking and scary.

Thank your Brothers for their Service also!
Mine just went back to Va. early this morning, this week flew by. :(
Time to get back to the listia winners, I've been running behind this week.
Couldn't be helped though :)
Thanks!

It was very hard on my Mom and she treasured every letter we got or small reel to reel recording. Twice I remember that she was able to talk to my brother that was in the thick of the fighting through some special program where they patched him through to her through the local radio station.
She sent him a little artificial Christmas tree. One night when watching the news, we saw a tiny tree sitting up on some sandbags. We didn't know if it was his or not but it comforted us. My oldest brother came home twice for funerals from the Army. First for our Dad who died of a heart attack at age 38 . I was only 8 yrs old. Bless the Red no for bringing him home. The other two brothers had to come home for our youngest brothers death from being struck by a car when he was only 16. I was 12. He was my buddy and he and I were a support for our Mom while our brothers were gone. That's pretty rough on young kids. Mom did turn to an old friend of hers and Dad's and he was awesome for her and us. He was 30 yrs her senior but it became only a number. He took very good care of all of us. He never had any children of his own but he and his late wife took in foster kids. They were my Mom's age and became friends with her too. We became Ernie's family tho he never married Mom and he didn't live with us. We were all blessed having Ernie in our lives.

Its a shame, so many deaths at such a young age :(
You can never tell what a person is or has gone through by looking at them.
Sounds like the world could use a whole lot more Ernie's!! :)

I understand were your coming from, I had 2 in service. A son and a daughter. It's so hard when you have to say goodbye, it never seems like the visit is long enough. The time just seems to fly. I hope your son stays safe, I will pray for him. Thank you for your sacrifice as a parent :)

Thank You!
I have two also, one in Navy & Marine pictured.
Its really worrisome when you talk to them through FB, then all a sudden nothing for weeks or days, until they're back on, nerve wracking!!

No body thinks about the sacrifice the parents make (worrying, not always knowing where your child is)

My Daughter did satellites for the army until she was injured, even after 3 surgeries they couldn't fix her ankle so she left the military. Now she does outside contracting with the military in Arizona and she also works for chase bank in the fraud department. But when she was in the army we weren't even allowed to know where she was sometimes for months at a time. So I know what your dealing with. And I have so much respect for your strength! :) If you ever just want to talk to someone that's been there you can always reach out to me. I'm a good listener lol :)
