The listing, BLACK AMERICANS OF ACHEIVEMENT "PAUL ROBESON" by SCOTT ERLICK has ended.
Hardcover biography historical book, 112 pages, grades6+, illustrated, photos book ISBN 1-55546-608-7
Critically acclaimed biographies of history's most notable African-Americans-- Straightforward and objective writing-- Lavishly illustrated with photographs and memorabilia-- Essential for multicultural studies.
While Robeson's tremendous athletic, intellectual, musical, and dramatic talents are fully documented, the major thrust of Ehrlich's biography is Robeson's life as it was impacted by his advocacy of black civil rights and freedom of speech. His problems with the House Un-American Activities Committee, the FBI, and the State Department are vividly depicted as are his reactions to them. The black-and-white photographs of Robeson and his family are interesting and appropriate but not compelling.
Students will find that the format and organization of this book lend themselves well to report writing.
