22 gauge is smaller. The higher the number the thinner the gauge. Thank you for looking. I hope this helps.

I had mine done by a professional. They used a 16 gauge and it stung a little. I have also had my tongue and eyebrow done. I wouldn't say any of mine hurt. I think it has to do with your pain tolerance level mostly. Thank you for looking at my auction. If you have any more questions please ask.
