Does this plant require a lot of water and can it withstand winters with below 0 weather?

It requires a fair amount of water for a month or two - until it grows to maturity.

Then not so much water. It likes a little sand added to soil.

I have several, the ones that grow the best (most pretty & most color) are planted around my "decorative rock garden" in mostly full sun with only the edge of the grass sprinkler system hitting them.

They are very easy to grow! You will know if they are getting too much water or not enough water by the brightness of the red & burgandy colors in the leaves & plumes. Too much green/yellow = too much water. Too much orange = not enough water. Don't worry, they can spring back from "almost dead" and still thrive.

Below zero??? I live in Zone 5 and they have lived through below zero tempuratures - - - but not for extended periods of time. My below zero is probably 2-3 times per year for an exceptionally cold night. We get snow here probably 5-7 times per winter and 75% of those times it is melted by noon the next day. HOPE THIS HELPS. (And you can always grow them as an indoor potted plant - they do not get as huge as many of the decorative grass plants.)

Thanks for your reply. I live in Colorado and it sounds like your weather is similar to ours so the plant should do well here. Hope I win the bid.
