Hi! Are these sterling silver or what?

No, as far as I know they are Tibetan silver, a silver color metal (with an antiqued finish) that does not have any silver in it at all. Tibetan "silver" is what we used to call "pot metal." Trust me, if they were sterling I would say so .. but I also can't afford to buy sterling in bulk for Listia. The only sterling I have on Listia is my sterling earring wires. Everything else is either silver plate or tibetan silver.

Yes, most people are surprised to hear that Tibetan silver doesn't have any silver in it. A while back I found a listing where someone was selling Tibetan silver on Listia, as scrap, by the ounce. I quickly posted a note to her that her silver had no silver in it, worthless by the ounce!

I have to say, though, that although most of my stuff is silver plated, some of the newer items I'm getting that are Tibetan silver are a brighter, prettier silver. It's a metal that they can mix almost anything with, so I'm sure the manufacturers in China are doing everything they can to make it look more like silver. It's great for bead findings and Euro charms, but you have to understand that it has no value as a metal (now that most metals are selling at sky-high prices).
