The listing, 1880 (P) Morgan silver dollar 90% silver has ended.
I have not used my Listia account in a little while, so I am coming back and listing a couple Morgan dollars to build my credits back up.
this is an 1880 Morgan dollar, it is one of the 12,600,000 Morgan dollars minted in Philadelphia in 1880.
This particular Morgan dollar, I think, is very pretty. It has beautiful toning.
Many people do not realize the difference between a silver coin with toning and a coin that is dirty. When the oxygen in the air touches the silver of the coin there is a chemical reaction where the oxygen actually eats away at the silver(very very slowly) and leaves a darker tone on the surface. When a coin continues to be handled and circulated the toning wares off on the high parts and gets darker on the low parts. It sometimes creates a sort of black and white contrast image of the engraving on the coin.
This coin has toned perfectly! it doesn't look dark, or dirty but it has color. It almost looks like a drawing.
Many people's passion for coin collecting is because when you look at a jar full or pocket full of coins they are all different, unique. some are dirty some are scratched some are bent. some are pretty, some are not. Collecting pristine uncirculated untouched coins is cool and all, I guess, but they all look the same, they have no character and the images on the coins do not pop like they would on a beautifully toned silver coin such as this one.
I have decided not to put a GIN on this because I really don't want to cut myself short and I curious to see how it will finish. I hope all of you silver coin collectors are still here on Listia.
I will provide free shipping and tracking in the United States. The coin pictured is the one you will receive. feel free to ask any questions.
