so my only question is... why would an "american" company (Jim Beam/or Jack) (oh the painful memories of my 21st bday w/Jack - now 40/..) :o) LOL want to disguise itself as being other than "american"? Was it in appreciation to Egypt or Cleopatra?

Is it hand painted or is that a paper label? It is a wine jug. A urn would have a lid. Also it has a Eygtian murel on it. i have something similar but they are Greek.

I know exactly what it is. It's a Jack Daniels decanter bottle from the 60's. I have two of them--a brown like this one and a black. The brown one was given to my father-in-law for Christmas and I asked if I could have it after he was done. It is on my mantle.

love the greek/egyptian look to it. Do you have an idea of what it made from? A metal, cermanic etc.? Is it pretty heavy?

An AMPHORA is an ancient shape, typically Greek, that held olive oil or wine, in shipping. They were designed to be stable while shipping, lying on their sides.

I don't think yours is ancient, but a modern version - more useful in today's kitchens.

It looks like a non-standard Amphora. The standard shape would not stand up vertically as yours does.
