Folks once used paper tabs with glue on them to secure their stamps into an album. Some of this was a bit acidic and, after a generation or so, would burn through to the image on front of the stamp. We are much more careful these days, and only use materials that are non-acidic. But if you decide to store your stamps in, say, plastic bags, then you need to find out whether or not it is safe to use.
