Yellow Peony Poppy (Papaver somniferum)

1000 Seed Package

Papaver somniferum is the a Moon plant because of its sedative effects, its milky sap, the shape of its pods.
The poppy flower is large, its crinkled, almost translucent petals are extremely feminine, and it is fragrant. The dried pods make nice decorations. The poppy family is fairly large and contains a variety of poppies-- They come in a variety of colors--not only the more well known red, white, and purple/lavender, but yellow, orange, and blue. It gets 35"/90cm tall.

annual or perennial? will it re- seed? are the seeds easy to collect?

Pretty sure they are prennials..Never grew them before so i have no idea about collecting seeds but I would think the seeds are in the flowers... :)

Sorry..I looked them up online and they are an Annual...This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies and/or birds
Average Water Needs; Water regularly; do not overwater
Self-sows freely; deadhead if you do not want volunteer seedlings next season

Propagation Methods:
From seed; direct sow outdoors in fall
From seed; winter sow in vented containers, coldframe or unheated greenhouse
From seed; sow indoors before last frost
From seed; direct sow after last frost


Seed Collecting:
Allow pods to dry on plant; break open to collect seeds
