10 Jamaican Sorrel Seeds!
Jamaican Sorrel.....What is Jamaican Sorrel. I notice many people do not know about the beauty of this plant. Also the powerful medicine it can serve as.
Jamaica made this plant famous but if I am not mistaken this is an Eastern plant.
To myself and family we simply call this plant "Sorrel" usually with an accent making it sound like "Sah-Rell".
This plant is what I call the "jealous neighbor plant" because anyone who grows this type of hibiscus will surely get some attention from locals (even if they don't say anything.)
Around the time they mature they begin to bear the red flower buds seen above they can be picked and the seeds inside them can be parched to plant more.
This plant multiplys faster than rabbits. An adult plant can give back up to 30+ Seeds if you allow it to reach the maturity seen in the picture above.
In Jamaica the extract of the dry red skin is mixed with wine or white rum making it taste less sour but of course making it easier to drink.
These can be grown for medicine, their seeds or simply for their beauty as the colors of the stem and leaves change through out the growing proccess.
Young leaves taste alot like sour berries.
The red flower buds are usually harvested around christmas time and the seed amount is usually more than the flowers themselves.
The buds are peeled, the skin is dried and then ready to be boiled, juiced, drawn, extracted however you like to say it.
(Medicinal reports of this deep red extract are said to be rich in Vitamin C {perfect after a night of drinking}, beneficial for killing Cancer cells (smokers and activity-slackers), preventing Hypertension, Diabetes and Heart Disease (Most Americans) and this red color is also reported to be beneficial itself for fighting free radicals I believe.
Fair warning though these plants grow very diffrently from how they will appear when they are young so don't plant them too close together.
